# DNS Migration from Route 53 to Hetzner DNS This guide describes how to move existing Route 53 hosted zones to Hetzner DNS while keeping domain registration within AWS. The migration script is provided in `scripts/migrate_dns_to_hetzner.py` and performs the following steps: 1. **Backup** all Route 53 zones to `zone-backups/`. 2. **Recreate** those zones and records using the Hetzner DNS API. 3. **Delegate** the domain to Hetzner's nameservers. 4. **Delete** the old Route 53 hosted zones when everything resolves. The resulting Hetzner zone IDs are written to `dns-inventory.yaml`. ```bash python scripts/migrate_dns_to_hetzner.py --hetzner-token <token> --profile fountain ``` The script requires valid AWS credentials and a Hetzner DNS API token. Use the `--no-delete` flag to keep the Route 53 zones for safety.
